New Zealand – Job ads jump 15% in May with a boost from Hospitality and Tourism industry

Job ads on job board Seek New Zealand were up by 15% in May 2022 when compared to May 2021.

When compared to the previous month, job ads were up 3%.

At the same time, applications per job ad fell by 4% over the previous month.

By region, Canterbury reported year-on-year growth of 38% while Taranaki saw an increase of 34%. The smallest increase over the year was seen in Gisborne. When compared to the previous month, Southland reported growth of 10%, the highest among regions, while on the other end Northland reported a decrease of 7%.

By job ad volume, among industries Hospitality and Tourism reported an increase of 51% while Retail and Consumer Products (40%) also reported high growth. The ICT (Information and communication technology) sector recorded the smallest increase at 5%.

On a monthly basis, Retail and Consumer Products saw the biggest increase (14%) while the manufacturing, transport and logistics sector was the only sector to see a decrease at 1%.
