Malaysia’s unemployment rate returns to pre-pandemic levels

November's unemployment rate fell to 3.3% and returned to the pre-pandemic level, compared to 3.6% recorded during the same period a year ago, according to Statistics Malaysia.

In October 2023, the unemployment rate was 3.4%.

During November 2023, the number of unemployed persons stood at 569,200, down 5.3% over the year and down 0.3% over the month.

At the same time, the number of employed persons continued on an upward trend, registering an annual increase of 2.0% and a month-on-month increase of 0.2% to 16.43 million persons.

November’s labour force participation rate stood at 70.1%, up 0.3% over the year and flat over the month.
