Japan – Temp agency worker arrested for allegedly pulling down female co-worker’s trousers at company party (The Straits Times)

01 March 2023

A temporary agency worker in Japan was arrested last week after an alleged sexual harassment incident in which he pulled down a female co-worker’s trousers at a company's new year party, reports the The Mainichi. The man, a temp agency worker from Yame city in Fukuoka, faces an assault charge, following a complaint lodged by his 27-year-old co-worker. The man has denied the allegations, telling police that he was drunk and does not remember.

The party was held at a pub in the Fukuoka Prefecture, on the evening of 4 February 2023. When the co-worker stood up to get a plate, the man, reaching from behind, allegedly pulled her trousers down below her knees. According to the police, between 10 and 20 men and women were at the event. The woman immediately condemned the man's behaviour, but he and other male co-workers laughed at her. She then fled to the bathroom. The woman said, "Even though it was a saddening and embarrassing experience, I returned to my seat to avoid causing a scene. While I feared reprisal, I spoke with police because the man's actions were unforgivable."
