Japan – LinkedIn country head says firms need to adapt to changing values (Bloomberg)

05 June 2023

The first female country head of LinkedIn Japan, Wakana Tanaka, argues companies in the country need to adapt to workers’ changing values if the country is going to improve its persistent gender inequality, according to a report by Bloomberg on The Japan Times website. Tanaka said Japan is at a “turning point,” and the country is already shifting to a focus on individual skill rather than lifetime employment — and that shift has been positive for women. Men were traditionally expected to take long-term stable jobs while women were expected to shoulder the bulk of childcare and household tasks and take lower-paid part-time jobs.
