Japan – Healthcare staffing provider reports strong revenue and profit growth

Japanese healthcare staffing provider SMS Co Ltd (2175: JP) on Friday reported revenue growth of 22.3% to JPY 10.7 billion (USD 90.7 million) in the nine-months to 31 December 2014, up from JPY 8.7 billion (USD 74.1 million) during the same period in 2013.

According to the company’s H1 2014 financial statement, costs rose during the period as a result of investments in improving the operational and financial efficiency of SMS’ small and medium sized care businesses.

Broken down by business segment, the strongest year-on-year growth was reported in Older People’s Services, which increased markedly from a small base.

SMS Co’s overseas operations includes the provision of nursing and healthcare services, as well as services for older people, in Malaysia, Taiwan and Sri Lanka.

In trading on Friday, the company’s share price closed down 0.5% at JPY 1,067 (USD 9.07). Based on its closing share price, the company has a market value of JPY 44.7 billion (USD 380.1 million).
