Japan – Government weighing legislation as number freelancers proliferate (The Japan Times)

The Japanese government is looking into the impact of freelance work as the number of freelancers in the country continues to grow and weighing possible legislation to protect independent workers, The Japan Times reported. “More data related to freelancers have been accumulated. We know more about the kinds of problems they face, and there are problems that are difficult to deal with through existing laws,” Mariko Morita, a lawyer at Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, told The Japan Times. “Thus, I think momentum for introducing a new law has been growing.”
