Japan – Average hourly wage for temporary workers on the rise across three major metropolitan areas

The average hourly wage for temporary workers across three major metropolitan areas in Japan for September stood at JPY 1,543 (USD 10.22) up JPY 48 (USD 0.32) from the previous year, and down JPY 2 (USD 0.013) from the previous month, according to staffing firm and job board Dip Corp.

The research was based on a survey from Dip Corp’s subsidiary temporary jobs site Hatarako.

The number of job openings for temporary workers stood at about 169,000, 1.2 times higher than the previous year, according to Dip Corp.

The average hourly wage by area is JPY 1,639 (USD 10.86) in the Kanto area, JPY 1,377 (USD 9.12) in the Tokai area and JPY 1,420 (USD 9.40) in the Kansai area. All three areas saw annual increases. The Kanto area includes Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

Average hourly wages by occupation increased year-on-year in six major categories including administrative/office-related, web/creator-related, IT/engineering, research and education, and factory, light work, logistics and civil engineering.
