15 June 2023

India needs a minimum of 8 million skilled people by 2025 to use the recently rolled out 5G services to their full potential, reports The Economic Times, citing a report from TeamLease Services. The report highlights the role 5G can play in terms of job creation and in upskilling individuals. TeamLease stated that a majority of beneficiaries of 5G come from the IT and banking sectors, given their potential.

The impact can also be found in BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance), education, gaming, and e-commerce while hinting at the diverse and inclusive nature of 5G. The problem, however, lies in the demand and supply gap pointed out in the telecom industry, which stands at 28%, according to TeamLease. The Indian staffing firm anticipates a massive impact in terms of job creation as 5G rolls out in India. The impact on job creation is expected to be more than 80% within three years of the 5G roll out. Kartik Narayan, CEO, Staffing, TeamLease Services said, "Telecommunications companies embracing 5G solutions present a promising growth opportunity. As telecom companies leverage the potential of 5G in network upgradation, migration, IoT/IIoT (Internet of Things/Industrial Internet of Things), mobility, network infrastructure, and network security, we anticipate increased hiring for specialised roles."
