India – Quess Corp says it has sorted out issues with Wistron (Times of India)

01 February 2021

Indian staffing firm Quess Corp announced that it sorted out the issue relating to the non-payment of contractual workers with iPhone manufacturer Wistron, according to the Times of India. Quess Corp was one of the staffing firms that supplied workers to the Wistron iphone factory near Bengaluru. Other staffing firms included Randstad and Adecco Group. "We have sorted out the problem in a calm way and thankfully there was no legal action against Quess. It's behind us now," said Quess Corp CEO Suraj Moraje. He declined to go into the specifics, including whether the workers' dues have been cleared. Apple and Wistron in December 2020 said that there were lapses in payments to workers in its Narasapura facility near Bengaluru in October and November. The facility, which employs about 12,000 people, saw large scale violence and destruction of company assets. "There is now a clear understanding of how to work going forward. It was a difficult situation and even they (Wistron) ramped up very quickly," said Moraje. Quess Corp and the other staffing firms came under scrutiny in December 2020 as a labour report seen by the Economic Times (paywall) showed labour violations from the staffing firms. Quess Corp recently reported revenue from operations fell by 5% in its fiscal third quarter ended 31 December 2020.
