India – Online recruitment climbs slightly in February with retail industry driving growth

Online recruitment in India saw a slight increase of 1% in February 2023 compared to February 2022, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker.

The Tracker replaced the Monster Employment Index (MEI) following Monster India’s rebranding to foundit in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

The Tracker’s data also showed that e-recruitment rose by 5% in February on a monthly basis.

The month-on-month and annual growth is evidence of a revival of job opportunities in the online recruitment market. This resurgence is the reflection of increased positive business sentiment from a mid to long-term perspective, foundit stated.

By industry, 15 of the 27 monitored industries registered annual growth in online recruitment activity in February 2023. The Retail industry registered year-on-year growth of 25%. This was followed by Advertising, MR (market research) and PR (public relations) which grew by 24%.

By function, 6 of the 12 functions monitored by the tracker registered annual growth in online recruitment activity in February 2023. Finance and Accounts led annual growth (21%), followed by HR and Admin functions (18%) and Hospitality and Travel (4%).

Meanwhile, 5 of the 13 cities monitored report year-on-year growth.

By experience level, demand for entry-level jobseekers with experience of 0-3 years saw annual growth of 9%. Hiring for intermediate level roles with an experience of 4-6 years saw a 1% decline.

Mid-senior level roles with 7-10 years of experience also saw a decrease of 1%. Hiring for senior level roles with 11-15 years of experience eased by 2% over the year. Meanwhile, leadership roles with experience of 16+ years saw a dip of 8%.
