India – More than three quarters of companies to let employees choose work models such as hybrid work

18 May 2022

More than three quarters of organizations, or 76.8%, plan to offer employees the option of a preferred work model, such as hybrid work with time in the office and time working remotely, according to the “Future-readiness of Organisations for a Hybrid World” report released by staffing firm TeamLease.

The survey included more than 300 organisations.

“As the economy is slowly opening up and organisations are looking to welcome their employees back, they want to foolproof their workspaces and environment to accommodate the employee preferences in a way that also aligns with business sustainability and growth,” said Ajoy Thomas, VP and business head for the retail, e-commerce, logistics and transportation vertical at TeamLease.

“Both can be balanced in the best way possible by redefining what productivity looks like, how it’s measured, and how employees are being engaged and retained in the long term,” Thomas said.

According to the report, 36.6% of survey respondents claimed they had office space on lease pre-pandemic but moved to co-working spaces afterward with an almost equal number of organisations (36.9%) saying they had office space on lease pre-pandemic but moved to fully remote work settings without an operational office.

While 21.4% of organisations didn’t see any change in their workspace status quo, 5.1% said they intend to stay a virtual-only organisation for the foreseeable future.

Other findings in the report included:

  • 40.8% find employee performance management a significant challenge in virtual work settings.
  • 50.3% of respondent say they are increasing their learning and development budgets by between 15% and 25% this year.
