India – Hiring activity jumps 16% in March, led by Hospitality and Travel

Hiring activity in India recorded year-on-year growth of 16% in March 2022 when compared to March 2021, according to the latest Naukri JobSpeak Index.

The Naukri JobSpeak Index for March stood at 2832 at the end of the financial year reflecting the steady growth of hiring activity in India.

The Travel and Hospitality sector recorded a year-on-year increase of 82% in March 2022.

Other key sectors that saw an uptick in hiring compared with last year are Education (44%), Real Estate (30%), Retail (28%), BFSI (22%), IT-Software (14%), and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) (5%). The Healthcare sector was flat while Oil and Gas fell by 6%.

Among metro cities, Kolkata recorded a 42% year-on-year followed by Hyderabad (27%), Mumbai (25%), Chennai (24%), and Pune (23%). Delhi saw a decline of 15%.

Among tier-2 cities, hiring activity increased in Coimbatore by 29%, followed by Kochi by 12%. Chandigarh registered a decline of 9%. Vadodara and Jaipur remained flat in March 2022 when compared with March 2021.

By experience band, demand among workers with more than 16 years’ experience saw the highest growth (23%) when compared to the same period last year.

Hiring activities across 0-3 years also increase (21%), while hiring also jumped for 13-16 years (21%), 4-7 years (14%) and 8-12 years (11%).
