India – Demand for healthcare/pharmaceutical professionals jump amid impact of Covid

14 July 2021

Demand in India for professionals in the healthcare/pharmaceuticals segment jumped in June amid the impact of Covid-19, according to TimesJobs’ RecruiteX index of online job postings.

The index for healthcare/pharmaceutical job postings rose 18% in June compared to May, when it grew 4%.

Looking at just doctors/medical professionals, job profiles rose 30% month over month in June.

“The world is grappling with Covid-19 and its aftermaths on businesses and the society at large,” said Sanjay Goyal, business head at TimesJobs and TechGig.

“The second (and more intense) wave of April-May ’21 jolted many businesses, slowing their operations and workforce plans. Hence everyone is preparing to deal with the impending third wave more cautiously,” Goyal said. “In this wake, the healthcare/ pharmaceuticals sector and the doctors/medical professionals job profile saw the maximum growth of 18% and over 30% respectively in the study month.”

Overall, for all segments, the index rose 5% in June.

Aside from healthcare/pharmaceuticals, the next fastest growth was in petrochemicals/oil and gas/power, which grew 7%.

The city with the most growth was Lucknow; it saw postings rise by 28% month over month in June. Ahmedabad came in second with growth of 20%.
