Hourly wage for temp workers up 2.7% across Japan's metro areas

The average hourly wage for temporary workers across three major Japanese metropolitan areas in March 2024 stood at JPY 1,696 (USD 10.97), up 2.7% compared to the same period last year and an increase of 0.8% compared to February 2024, according to research from En Japan.

The JPY 1,696 (USD 10.97) figure is the highest hourly wage recorded and the 19th consecutive month sales exceeded last year.

By job type, En Japan noted that six occupations exceeded the same month last year, including office work/administrative work; sales/service work; IT/engineering work; technical work; medical care/nursing care/welfare/education work; and light work/logistics/factory work/others.

Meanwhile, data from Engage, the employee and part-time job recruitment site operated by En Japan Co., showed that the national average hourly wage in the three major metropolitan areas exceeded the same month last year and the previous month.

The average hourly wage for part-time workers in the three major metropolitan areas in March was JPY 1,288 (USD 8.33), a 2.9% increase compared to the same month last year and a 0.4% increase compared to the previous month.
