19 July 2021

China's surveyed urban unemployment rate stood at 5.0% in June, 0.7% lower than the same period last year, reports China.org.cn, citing data from the National Bureau of Statistics.  The rate was the same as that registered in May. A total of 6.98 million new urban jobs were created in the first half of 2021, achieving 63.5% of the annual target. The surveyed unemployment rate among those aged between 25 and 59, the majority of the labour market, stood at 4.2% in June, down from 4.4% registered in May. Meanwhile, the surveyed unemployment rate in 31 major cities was 5.2% last month, the same as that registered in May. The surveyed urban unemployment rate is calculated based on the number of unemployed people who have participated in the employment survey in urban areas, including migrant workers in cities.
