Private equity firm acquires Sonoma Consulting

Chicago-based private equity firm Highlands Ventures acquired Sonoma Consulting Inc., an IT consulting and executive search firm also headquartered in Chicago. Sonoma Consulting will merge with Highlands Ventures’ current portfolio company, Halo Group LLC.

The deal brings Halo into Highlands Ventures’ home territory.

The transaction closed Dec. 21; terms were not disclosed.

The Sonoma Consulting brand is transitioning to Halo Group and all staff will remain. President and CEO Mark McGee, who founded Sonoma Consulting in 2011, will serve as president of Halo Group and as a board member of Highlands Ventures.

“We identified Sonoma as a strategic fit for Halo Group given the scale, diversity, and quality of its customer base,” said Brent Rasmussen, managing partner of Highlands Ventures and CEO of Halo Group. “This acquisition elevates Halo Group into a global competitor with a strong international portfolio of consultants and customers. We are excited about this next stage in the company’s growth.”

Sonoma Consulting has two business divisions and four offices — Naperville and Chicago, Ill.; Hyderabad, India; and Tyson’s Corner, Va. It serves 150 national clients.

Halo Group provides UX/UI, data and analytics, and cloud consultants as well as personnel in all areas of security, project governance and multi-platform application development. It is headquartered in Detroit, with additional offices in Atlanta and Dallas.
