Computer sciences grads post highest starting salary

Computer and information sciences majors reported the highest starting salary for class of 2016 grads with bachelor’s degrees at $71,534, according to preliminary salary survey data released by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

The overall average salary for class of 2016 grads with bachelor’s degrees rose 3.8% compared to the class of 2015. NACE’s Fall 2016 Salary Survey found the overall average salary for the class of 2016 is $52,569, up from the average salary of $50,651 reported for the class of 2015 in fall 2015.

The average salaries by discipline for class of 2016 grads with bachelor’s degrees include:

  • Computer and Information Sciences: $71,534, up 8.6% from the 2015 average salary
  • Engineering: $66,121, up 7.0%
  • Mathematics and Statistics: $62,985, up 15.6%
  • Business: $53,836, up 8.7%
  • Health Sciences: $52,074, up 20.6%

The report is based on early returns to NACE’s Class of 2016 First-Destination Survey and the starting salaries reported in the survey are early indicators. The Fall 2016 Salary Survey included 38 colleges and universities. The data represent actual starting salary data for Class of 2016 graduates who graduated from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016.
