Maxim Healthcare names new CEO

Maxim Healthcare Services Inc., the fifth-largest US healthcare staffing firm, appointed William “Bill” Butz as CEO. He replaces outgoing CEO W. Bradley Bennett, who served in that role since 2009. The company also added two member to its executive team.

Butz most recently served as president and COO at Maxim before taking on the CEO role; he had joined the firm in 2012 as CFO. Before coming to Maxim, Butz was president of Erickson Living, responsible for the company’s operations including physician practices, skilled nursing and home health services. Earlier in his career, Butz worked for Allegis Group for 15 years where he held various financial leadership positions, including CFO of Aerotek.

“Bill has been an integral part of Maxim’s leadership team during the past four years and his experience — both in and outside of the company — provide a unique and valuable perspective that will be important as we continue to transform our culture and evolve our services,” Chairman Jim Davis said.

The appointment is effective immediately. Former CEO Bennett has not announced his future plans.

“Six and a half years ago I was asked by Maxim’s Chairman Jim Davis to achieve some very specific goals, not the least of which was to put in place a leadership team capable of driving sustained long-term success,” Bennett said. “Having worked closely with Bill over the past four years, I am confident he is the right leader at the right time in Maxim’s evolution.”

Bennett is included in Staffing Industry Analysts’ Staffing 100 list of the most influential people in the staffing industry. He joined Maxim Healthcare in 2009.

“Today we thank Brad for his many contributions,” Davis said. “We are thrilled that he has assembled a strong leadership team and that Maxim is now positioned for continued success under Bill’s leadership.”

Maxim also recently appointed two senior clinical leaders to its executive team.

Chery Nelson, promoted to senior VP of clinical innovation and delivery, will focus on nursing advocacy and workforce development. Nelson joined Maxim in 2010 as VP of clinical operations for the West region before being promoted to senior VP of clinical operations in 2013.

Melissa Fannin, promoted to senior VP of clinical operations, will assume the role of chief nursing officer in 2017. Fannin previously served as VP of clinical operations for Maxim’s mid-Atlantic region.

Maxim Healthcare is based in Columbia, Md., and has more than 250 locations across the US.
