World – Jobs website Monster appoints new CEO as Randstad continues investment

10 May 2018

Jobs website Monster Worldwide Inc. named Scott Gutz as CEO, effective July 2 as Randstad nv continues to invest in the firm.

“Monster is at a pivotal point in its digital transformation and we’re thrilled to have someone with Scott’s experience and track record of success join the company,” said Chris Kibarian, CEO of Randstad Digital Ventures. “Monster is making significant progress in its efforts to transform the job search experience — work that has been led by an almost entirely new executive team.”

Randstad nv acquired Monster Worldwide Inc. in November 2016, and Mark Stoever had taken over the CEO role the following month.

Gutz most recently was CEO of Amadeus North America Inc., a provider of technology solutions to the travel and tourism industry.

In its first-quarter conference call with investors last month, Randstad management said Monster had a small profit in the fourth quarter but a loss in Q1.

“Monster, on the one hand we’re investing in growth, and we’re going to continue to do that, and we’re investing in technology and marketing,” Randstad CEO Jacques van den Broek said in the conference call. “What we found is that the Monster brand is still a very strong brand. We’ve created and implemented a mobile app to apply and generate traffic. And traffic at the end of the day leads to business in this business model.”

Monster faces stiff competition in a market seeing notable consolidation, not least Recruit’s acquisition of Glassdoor to complement its other job board brands such as Indeed earlier this week.
