International recruitment firm Hays said it has appointed Andrew Martin as chairman on a permanent basis with immediate effect.

Hays appointed Martin as interim non-executive chairman on 23 July following the death of Alan Thomson.

Martin was previously senior independent director of the company. Martin, who joined the board in July 2017, had also served as group chief operating officer for Europe and Japan for Compass Group plc until 2015. He had served as that company's group finance director from 2004 to 2012.
