What could derail hiring confidence in the UK? ManpowerGroup weighs in

05 July 2023

In an interview with Staffing Industry Analysts, ManpowerGroup followed up on its latest UK ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey and discussed which possible factors could disrupt the country’s positive hiring intentions.

ManpowerGroup’s Q3 Outlook showed that employer hiring confidence has grown in almost every sector across the UK, rising by 8% since last quarter to 29%. The Outlook in the UK was also 5% lower than this time last year, when overall job vacancies were at record high levels.

In the interview Manpower UK director Petra Tagg said, “If we look back at what’s happened in the last three years, we did not expect to see a pandemic. No one would have probably predicted a recession and we still have that hanging at the moment in terms of what the economy is going to do over the next 12 months. The cost of living has continued to spiral in the past six months and we are still in the middle of a war in Ukraine and that has really had a significant impact on the labour market.”

However, Tagg added that the ManpowerGroup Outlook for the next few months is still looking exceptionally positive.

The interview with Manpower UK director Petra Tagg is part 2 of a two-part interview with ManpowerGroup. The first part can be found here.
