UK – Uber judge and Transport for London consider one-year licence with reviews (Bloomberg)

26 June 2018

A judge and Transport for London discussed today limiting the length of Uber Technologies Inc.'s license to operate in London to as much as one year with independent reviews every six months, reports Bloomberg. Today was the second day of the anticipated hearing in London on Uber’s ability to operate in the capital. Judge Emma Arbuthnot asked regulators about the suitability of a 12-month permit. Helen Chapman, TfL's licensing director, replied that in addition to the time limit, the company should face regular audits. Yesterday, it was reported that Transport for London, moved to a position "of effective neutrality", recognising what Uber had achieved since September when the regulator banned Uber and said it wasn't "fit and proper" to operate in the city. Uber is appealing a decision by TfL in September to strip the company of its licence. A ruling is expected later today.
