UK – Sports Direct workers who were paid less than minimum wage have not yet received back pay (The Guardian)

29 March 2017

A number of Sports Direct workers who were found to be paid less than the minimum wage have still not been awarded with back pay, reports the Guardian. Transline, the employment agency that provided workers to Sports Direct, had been fined by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and promised to award back pay of about £1 million to its workers, however it has not yet paid a number of them. Union officials have expressed concern that Transline would refuse to refund unpaid wages from before it took over contracts from a rival agency, Blue Arrow, in 2014. Transline responded in a statement saying that they are awaiting guidance from the HMRC on how to proceed.
