UK – Job ad asks for women who can ‘deal with the male banter’ (The Telegraph)

26 January 2018

The Telegraph reported that a job vacancy from a property investment firm in London has requested that whoever applies to be its new “Executive Assistant & Investor Relations Associate” should have the ability to “deal with the male banter and be sociable but not distracting”. The advert, posted by RMS Recruitment with an attached salary of £40-45,000 per annum, has already received a backlash on social media. Others have pointed out that city firms demanding women quietly ‘deal’ with male ‘banter’ has long been shorthand for putting up with persistent workplace sexual harassment.
