UK – Healthcare sector top category for online vacancies

03 May 2018

The number of unique job vacancies posted online in the UK totaled more than 2.4 million in the first quarter, according to analysis by Jobfeed, Textkernel’s big data tool for vacancies. Healthcare was the top job category for the first quarter, accounting for 11% of all job postings available and growing in market share by 0.9% year over year.

Administration and customer service, and information and communication technology, followed as the second- and third-largest job categories respectively, with about 9.8% market share. Sales and trading lost 1.5% market share — down to 8.6% of jobs posted — and fell to the fourth-largest category from the largest category in the year-ago quarter. Insurance and Finance rounded out the top five with 6.4% market share, up 0.4% year over year.

Customer service agent ranked as the top in-demand profession by number of jobs posted in the first quarter, reflecting growth in the administration and customer service category. The top-five professions included:

  1. Customer service agent
  2. Nurse
  3. Sales manager
  4. Support worker
  5. School teacher

The vast majority of UK jobs in the analysis, 91.6%, require full-time workers. However, this is down by 2% compared to the year-prior quarter, indicating a small shift towards part-time jobs.

Most of the job postings in the UK came from England with 91.5% market share. This was followed by Scotland with 4.4%, Wales with 2.5% and Northern Ireland with 1.5%.
