UK – Glastonbury Festival accused of exploiting European workers on zero hours contracts (The Independent)

03 July 2017

The Glastonbury Festival has been accused of exploiting hundreds of European workers on zero hours contracts who were fired after two days, reports the Independent. The festival organisers allegedly hired approximately 700 workers who were set to help clean up after the festival for two weeks, but up to 600 of them were let go after two days due to less work than expected after charity workers and on-site litter crews were on hand to clean up. The workers had come from the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland and Latvia. Glastonbury has not yet commented. Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn, who delivered a speech in Glastonbury, restated that the Labour Party is committed to ending zero hours contracts.
