UK – Employment laws are behind the times, says Deliveroo CEO (City A.M.)

22 August 2016

William Shu, CEO of Deliveroo, an online food delivery startup with self-employed riders, has said the UK's employment laws need updating, reports City A.M.

The warning comes after Deliveroo tried to moderate an ongoing dispute with its drivers over a new trial pay structure. He says he hasn’t spoken with the UK Government over these issues, however he warns that the firm should start paying its workers minimum wage unless a court rules them self-employed. Shu has stated that landscape of work is changing and employees are seeking more flexible options and he said that regulations need to evolve with that as some of the rules made years ago are not relevant in today’s economy.
