UK – Deliveroo overhauls its courier contracts (BBC News)

12 May 2017

Deliveroo, the UK-based food courier, has bowed to pressure to overhaul its courier contracts after MPs criticised its employment practices, reports BBC News. Deliveroo removed a stipulation that banned couriers from challenging their self-employed status before an employment tribunal. They first announced the plan to remove the clause earlier this year. In the new supplier agreement, Deliveroo specifies that freelance couriers can work for other businesses and do not have to wear Deliveroo-branded clothing. Furthermore, it has shortened its contracts. Dan Warne, UK managing director at Deliveroo, said the new agreement "makes clear that our riders are able to log in to work with us whenever they want - allowing them to fit their work around their life rather than their life around their work."
