UK – Asda to increase staff pay in exchange for flexible contracts (BBC)

15 March 2017

UK Supermarket chain Asda will offer staff a higher wage in exchange for a new flexible contract that will introduce unpaid breaks and a requirement to be available for work during holidays, reports BBC News. Asda will pay its workers £8.50 an hour, above the £7.50 National Living Wage rate due to come into force in April, but its workers must work on holidays if Asda needs them to. The company has said that it is not a zero-hours contract and that it is voluntary.
