UK – Argos announces it will hire nearly 10,000 temporary workers for the Christmas season (Essex Live)

08 September 2017

British retail giant Argos has announced plans to hire approximately 10,000 temporary workers for the Christmas period, reports Essex Live. Argos stated that recruits will be offered a minimum of 10 hours a week, with the potential for some roles to become permanent at the end of the season. The retail giant was came under fire earlier this year after being named and shamed on a government list of firms that did not comply with minimum wage laws. All the staff at Argos did eventually receive their back pay. Last month trade union Unite launched legal action against Argos and two employment agencies and accused them of acting unlawfully by using agency labour to cover striking workers at Argos’ central distribution centre.
