Twitter set to launch job listings feature for verified organisations

21 July 2023

Twitter is set to join the online job advertising market as it is reportedly planning to introduce a feature on its platform that allows verified organisations to post job listings on their profiles.

Although Twitter has not officially announced the job postings feature yet, some verified organisations have already been able to post job listings under their Twitter bios on their profiles, TechCrunch reported. The job listings take interested applicants directly to the company’s website, where they can learn more about the position and apply.

The company has also created an official @TwitterHiring account, but it has yet to tweet from the account.

Twitter’s Verified Organisations program enables organisations of all types, including businesses, non-profits, and government institutions, to sign up and manage their verification and to affiliate and verify any related account on the platform. A Twitter Verified Organisations subscription is $1,000 per month.

An app researcher, Nima Owji, posted a screenshot detailing the new job postings feature, which the social media giant is reportedly referring to as ‘Twitter Hiring.’ According to the screenshot, Twitter describes the feature as a way for verified organisations to attract talent to their open positions. Verified organisations will be able to add up to five job positions to their profiles.

Screenshots also suggest that Twitter will allow verified organisations to import all of their open jobs to the platform by connecting to a supported ATS (applicant tracking system) or XML (extensible markup language) feed, which would allow them to add their listings to Twitter in minutes.

The job postings feature is also reportedly included in the price of the $1,000 Verified Organisations subscription.

Twitter CEO has previously hinted at a jobs feature for the platform, replying to a user who suggested that Twitter should add dating services to its features and Musk replying with “Interesting idea, maybe jobs too.”

In May, the social media platform acquired Laskie, a US-based job-matching tech startup. The purchase of Laskie is Twitter’s first known acquisition under Elon Musk’s leadership. Laskie is described as ‘a people-first job-matching platform where tech jobs apply to candidates. Candidates can leverage Laskie as a free B2C Saas platform where hiring managers connect with candidates through Candidate Drop, Laskie Platform, and ReverseApply’.

However, Laskie’s website states that the platform is no longer available, and its Twitter profile has no tweets.

Laskie CEO and Founder Chris Bakke’s LinkedIn profile says he is still involved with Laskie and shows him as employed by X Corp, Twitter’s parent company, in an undisclosed role.

It is likely that the acquisition of Laskie in May has helped Twitter with the development of its new job listings feature.

In a previous interview, Bakke describes Laskie as a product to hire freelancers at scale, ‘helping enterprises find the right freelancers and agencies to work with’ suggesting that Laskie and subsequently Twitter’s new job listings feature could include the qualities of a talent platform.

Meanwhile, Business Today reports that with the job listings feature, Twitter is likely to compete with LinkedIn as well as Indeed. Chris Bakke previously sold another start up he founded, Interviewed (an online assessment tool), in 2017 to Indeed for between $40 million to $50 million. He joined Indeed as part of the acquisition and co-founded Indeed Assessments while working there. In 2019, he was promoted to ‘Head of Product, Central’ in 2019 where he was responsible for “a suite of enterprise products where more than 250 million people search for jobs, post resumes, and research companies each month”. He left Indeed in 2020 to found Laskie.

US-based media company WorkWeek, has already started using the feature, according to NDTV. Its CEO Adam Ryan said in a tweet, “We just got access to posting jobs on our company page.  Considering we've hired 20+ people from Twitter, this is a no-brainer.”
