Temporary work placements in Portugal fall in November

The number of temporary work placements in Portugal decreased by 3,381 people in November 2023 when compared to November 2022, according to the latest Barometer from the Portuguese Association of Companies in the Private Sector of Employment and Human Resources and ISCTE (University Institute of Lisbon).

Data from the Barometer showed that the number of placements in November 2023 totalled 31,517 while the index stood at 0.90. November’s index recovered from October’s 34-month low.

When it comes to gender, the distribution remained steady. This percentage stood at 44.7% (which compares with 44.8% in the previous month).

By age group, 22.7% of contracts were signed by workers aged 16-24. Workers aged 25-29 signed 20.6% of all contracts. By age group the rest were as follows: 30-34 (16.7%), 35-39 (13.1%), 40-49 (17.9%), 50 (8.9%).

Companies that resorted to temporary work operate mainly in the ‘manufacture of components and accessories for motor vehicles’ sector, representing 11.6% of the total contracts signed in November 2023.

Distribution of temporary work was led by ‘Other Elementary Professions’ (28.7%) in November 2023.
