Switzerland – Unemployment rate falls slightly in May

The Swiss registered unemployment rate fell to 2.3% in May 2019 from 2.4% in the same period last year, according to figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Figures from SECO showed that when compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 8,022 persons (-7.3%).

When compared to the previous month, the unemployment rate also fell by 0.1%.

Meanwhile, a total of 176,128 jobseekers were registered in May, 7,421 fewer than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 9,339 (-5.0%).

Youth unemployment (aged 15-24) decreased by 5.7% compared to last month while it decreased by 7.8% when compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, the number of unemployed aged 50 and over decreased by 4.8%. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this was a decrease of 8.9%.
