Switzerland – Unemployment rate eases in July

The jobless rate in Switzerland decreased slightly to 3.0% in July from 3.1% in the same period last year, according to figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Figures from SECO also showed that 133,926 unemployed were registered at the Regional Employment Centers (RAV) at the end of July 2017, compared to 139,310 last year and 323 more than in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the youth unemployment (15 to 24-year-olds) rose by 1,555 persons (11.0%) to 15,663; this was a decrease of 1,444 persons (-8.4%) compared to the previous year. The number of unemployed aged 50 and above decreased by 0.9% to 35, 755. 

SECO also recorded a total of 195,223 job seekers were registered, a decrease of 4,124 compared to last year.

In May 2017, SECO recorded that there were 3,876 short-term workers, down from 6,413 in the same period last year.
