Switzerland – Michael Page Swiss Job Index records decrease in job ads for July

The number of jobs advertised across Switzerland decreased by 4.9% between June and July 2018, according to the latest Michael Page Swiss Job Index.

The index states that the seasonal decline was most pronounced in the Swiss Romande region (-7.9%) compared with the German-speaking region (-4.4%).

Advertised jobs for IT developers grew 18.5% between June and July 2018 and 48.6% compared with the same period last year according to the Michael Page Swiss Job Index (July 2018).

Nicolai Mikkelsen, Executive Director, Michael Page, commented, “The drivers of this strong demand for IT developers include industrial organisations converging, aligning and integrating their IT and Operational Technology environments as part of “Industry 4.0” and the Internet of Everything. The Fintech and Cybersecurity fields are also significant sources demand for IT developers”.

The central region (LU, NW, OW, SZ, UR, ZG) was the only region where advertised jobs remained stable between June and July (0.1%). Advertised jobs in all other regions declined in line with the commencement of the holiday season.
