Switzerland – Jobless rate down to 2.4% in September

The Swiss registered unemployment rate stood at 2.4% in September, down from 3.0% in September of last year according to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

SECO found that there were 106,586 unemployed who were registered at the regional employment agencies, down by 20% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, youth unemployment (aged 15-24) declined by 3,985 people (-22.5%) when compared to the same month last year.

As for those 50 and over, the number of unemployed fell by 16%.

According to SECO data, a total of 178,499 jobseekers were registered in September 2018, a decrease of 15,125, or 7.8%, compared to the same period last year.

Swissstaffing’s Staffingindex found that in the three-month period to August, the number of hours worked by temporary workers in Switzerland was up 6.8% year over year.
