25 August 2016

The unemployment rate in Sweden was 6.3% in July compared with 6.5% for the same period last year, according to Statistics Sweden's Labour Force Survey (LFS).

The survey also showed that the number of permanent employees increased by 72,000 in July compared to the previous year. The number of temporary employees amounted to 873,000 in July.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate in July was 7.0% compared with 6.6% the previous month.

In July 2016, the number of employed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 5,059,000, not seasonally adjusted, corresponding to an increase of 56,000 when compared with July 2015.

The number of employed women amounted to 2,427,000 and the number of employed men amounted to 2,632,000. The employment rate amounted to 69.1%. Among women the employment rate was 67.3% and among men it amounted to 70.9%.

Statistics Sweden states that the interpretation of the labour market in summer months is usually more difficult compared with the rest of the year. For this reason, the July 2016 LFS results should be used with a certain amount of caution.
