Spain's labour reforms hindered turnover for temporary employment firms, Eurofirms CEO says

08 January 2024

Spain’s labour reforms have subtracted approximately 30% from the potential turnover of the temporary employment sector, Eurofirms CEO, owner and founder Miquel Jordà said in an interview with El Economista. This reduction was due to the greater rigidity and mortality of indefinite contracts, the shorter duration of the temporary contract that reduces income, and the lowest number of signed contracts, Jordá said. According to Jordá, changes to the reforms will “depend on the will of the government to recognise and solve the negative side effects” and criticises that "the intention or spirit must be to create new positions, and in this reform it has been to change the name of contracts". Spain’s labour reforms, under Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz, came into effect in 2022, with the aim of reducing the use of temporary contracts.
