Spain – Third-quarter unemployment rate falls to lowest level in nearly ten years

26 October 2018

Spain's unemployment rate fell to 14.6% in the third quarter, its lowest level since the last quarter of 2008, according to Spain’s National Institute of Statistics.

The fall comes after a busy tourist season boosted employment in services.

The rate also beat a forecast from economists polled by Reuters, who expected the unemployment rate would drop to 14.9%.

The total number of people employed in Spain rose by 183,900 people in the third quarter from a quarter earlier, to 19.5 million. In seasonally adjusted terms, employment rose 478,800 people, or 2.51%, from a year earlier.

Employment increased in all sectors except for the Agricultural sector which saw a decline of 54,000 employed, down -6.57% over the quarter.
