Spain – Summer hiring campaign to exceed 604,000 temporary contracts: Randstad

05 June 2019

Randstad Spain forecasts that this year's summer campaign in the country will exceed 604,000 temporary contracts, of which more than 139,000 are expected to become indefinite contracts.

The summer campaign runs from June through September and Randstad estimates that 139,536 permanent contracts will be signed in the sectors of commerce, hospitality, transportation and entertainment, from the 604,530 temporary contracts.

Randstad’s figure supposes a conversion rate of temporary contracts to indefinite contracts of 23% and an increase of 6.5% with respect to the previous year, when there were 131,020 indefinite contracts.

According to Randstad, all of Spain’s autonomous communities will see an increase in the number of contracts converted into permanent contracts compared to the previous year. Andalusia is expected to have the most indefinite contracts generated from the summer campaign, with a total of 28,420, followed by Catalonia at 20,040.

Hiring during the summer campaign will be driven by tourism-related sectors such as commerce, transportation, hotel and leisure and entertainment.

“The characteristics of the summer period leads to temporary hiring being one of the most used options by companies when responding to peak demand, meeting the needs of visitors to cover the holidays of some professionals,” Randstad stated.
