Spain – Number of temp agency workers transferred to permanent staff increases in 2017

The number of employees working for temporary agencies that transferred to permanent contracts in 2017 increased by 14.3% when compared to the previous year, according to figures from the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

The data also showed that most of these temporary agency workers who transferred to a permanent employer were men (60.7%), Spaniards (78%) and their age varied between 20 and 44 years (78%).

Meanwhile, the number of contracts that ETTs (temporary employment agencies) made with companies with the objective of assigning workers to provide a certain service exceeded 3.85 million in 2017, an increase of 10.7% when compared to 2016. Most of the contracts were in the manufacturing industry (1.1 million). The largest number of contracts were recorded in Catalonia (697,132).

As of December 2017, the Ministry stated that there were 259 authorised ETTs.
