Spain – Most young jobseekers willing to move overseas for employment

09 August 2017

The majority of jobseekers under 25 (69%) are willing to emigrate to another country to find employment, according to research from Randstad.

“Younger people are not afraid to take the plunge thanks to the growing dominance of languages and their interest in developing their skills in an international setting,” the research stated.

The research also showed that a total of 11 million Spanish workers are willing to emigrate. Meanwhile, among workers between the ages of 25 and 45, 65% would go to another country for a job, while the percentage is reduced to 52% in the group for people over 45 years of age.

Spaniards were the most inclined to emigrate for labour reasons, surpassing the European average by 12%. The research noted that 77% of Spanish workers think that “jobs for life” will disappear in the coming years.

"As job rotation grows, the feeling of a ‘job for life’ decreases, " Luis Pérez, director of Institutional Relations for Randstad Spain, said.

The unemployment rate for Spain stood at 17.1% in June, according to figures from Eurostat, this was the second highest after Greece (21.7%).
