Spain – Majority of labour contracts for first half of the year are temporary (20minutos)

In the first six months of 2017, more than 10.5 million labour contracts have been signed in Spain, which is the largest figure ever recorded and represents a hiring rate of 58,000 per day, however 90.8% of the contracts are temporary, reports 20minutos with data from the Spanish Public Employment Service (SEPE).

This was an increase from last year’s first half figures which reached 9.4 million. In 2016, a record 19.9 million contracts were signed. Among the temporary contracts for the first half of this year, 28.8%, or 2.7 million, lasted less than seven days. Meanwhile, the majority of the contracts, or 68.7%, were in the services sector.
