Spain – Majority of employees want to work remotely but their company forbids it, Randstad finds

16 January 2019

Approximately 69% of employees in Spain want to work from home or “telecommute”, but cannot because their company does not allow it, according to research from Randstad Spain.

Randstad found that employees who typically request this form of working are between 25 and 45 years (78%). This was followed by workers under 25 (65%) and those over 45 (58%).

More than half of employees (57%) also said they have everything they need to be able to telecommute.

The research also revealed that nearly seven out of ten companies currently maintain the "traditional" work method.

Miguel Valdivieso, Director of Randstad Human Capital Consulting, commented, “Occasional teleworking should be seen as a beneficial option for all parties: for the professional because it allows him to be more efficient when carrying out his activity and produces savings in unproductive times (displacements, inefficiencies in the workplace and even shorter meetings); and for the company, because the satisfaction of its employees results in better efficiency ratios, which improves the results of its business.”

"Having telecommuting and flexibility measures has a direct effect on employee satisfaction,” Valdivieso said. He added that work life balance is one of the most valued factors that jobseekers look for when choosing a company.
