Spain – Labour Inspectorate finds Ryanair and two Irish recruitment firms breached employment law (RTE)

28 November 2018

The Spanish Labour Inspectorate has found Ryanair committed breaches of employment law, some of which were deemed "very serious”, reports RTE. Ryanair was guilty of violating cabin crews’ right to strike and work safety regulations as well as obstructing labour inspections. In addition, two recruitment agencies from whom Ryanair sources personnel, Workforce International Contractors Ltd and Crewlink Ireland Ltd, were also found to have violated the workers' right to strike. Spain’s Labour Inspectorate found that Ryanair, by emailing or calling employees to see if they would stop work before planned strikes on 25 and 26 July, and 28 September, had infringed on their right to strike. The Labour Inspectorate has given Ryanair notice of infractions but it is unclear what level of penalties or sanctions may be imposed on the low-cost airline.
