15 November 2018

Both Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping events are set to create 28,400 temporary employment contracts in Spain, according to research from Randstad Spain. This is a 16% increase of over 2017 when 24,477 temporary employment contracts were signed.

Luis Pérez, director of Institutional Relations at Randstad, said that "the increase in popularity of both Black Friday and Cyber Monday events in Spain is having a direct impact on the labour market.

Pérez said that November is typically a month with reduced activity in temporary employment contracts however, with the offers and promotions from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, hiring has climbed, led by the commerce, logistics and transport sectors.

Among the regions that are set to see increases in temporary employment hiring, the Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid regions reported an increase of 26.7% and 20.3%, respectively.

By provinces, Randstad found that highest hiring increases are in Guadalajara (39.2%), Toledo (27.1%) and Teruel (25.9%).

Last month, Randstad’s research found that this Christmas season is set to generate more than 400,000 temporary work contracts in Spain, an increase of 8.3% over last year and the highest number in history.
