Poland – Number of temporary employees down 16% in Q3

05 December 2018

The number of temporary employees fell by 16% in the third quarter of 2018 when compared to the same period in 2017, according to the Polish Human Resources Forum (Polskie Forum HR).

The Forum said there was an estimated 335,000 temporary employees in the third quarter, down from approximately 399,000 in the previous year.

According to the Forum, Poland’s labour market has become a candidate market, meaning that it’s now easier than ever to find a permanent job and this has already led to reduced demand for temporary workers.

The Polish temporary employment market has seen recent changes. In November 2018, an amendment to the Act on Employment of Temporary Agency Workers took effect. This restricted the length of employment for a temporary employee and Polskie HR Forum estimates that this reduction in the length of employment will affect the situation of approximately 10% of employees.

Meanwhile, the Forum also published data on the temporary jobs market in the third quarter of 2018 with the value of market falling by 2% in Q3 compared to the same period of the previous year. During the period, member companies of the Forum generated a turnover of PLN 907 million (€211.4 million), while the estimated value of the entire temporary work market in Poland amounted to PLN 1.65 billion (€384.6 million) at the same time.

Within recruitment services, Forum member companies generated a turnover of PLN 40.2 million (€9.3 million) in the third quarter, of which PLN 33.8 million (€7.8 million) was generated by Polish companies while the rest (PLN 6.4 million (USD 1.5 million) was generated by foreign employers.
