24 August 2023

The majority of workers in Ireland say they have been the victim of or have witnessed discrimination at work, reports RTE, citing a survey by Matrix Recruitment. The survey found that 20% of respondents said they have personally experienced discrimination at work, while 32% said they have witnessed it. Pay inequality, age and gender discrimination were the leading forms of inequality according to the survey. It found that workers were also discriminated against on the grounds of disabilities, nationality and being a member of the Irish traveller community. The survey polled workers on a wide range of workplace issues, including discrimination, racism, workplace bullying and gender pay gaps. Meanwhile, 44% of respondents said they know a colleague of the opposite sex, with the same role or responsibility, who is being paid more than them. Of those, more than half were female.
