Netherlands – Unemployment rate falls below 5% for the first time since 2011

21 July 2017

The jobless rate in the Netherlands for the three-month period ending in June fell to 4.9%, the first time it has fallen below 5% since the summer of 2011 according to data from the CBS (Statistics Netherlands).

The number of unemployed has decreased by an average of 6,000 in the last three months to reach 446,000 in June.

CBS states that the number of unemployed is falling mainly because more people are finding jobs than people are losing them. In June, there were 118,000 workers who were unemployed three months earlier. At the same time, 81,000 people became unemployed who had previously worked three months prior.
