Netherlands – House of Representatives calls for the naming and shaming of temp agencies that participated in discriminatory behaviour (NOS)

05 February 2018

The majority of members of the Dutch House of Representatives are calling for the naming and shaming of temp agencies that were found to have participated in discriminatory behavior, reports NOS.  Last week, Dutch television program Radar called a number of temporary employment agencies, presenting themselves as clients who were looking for staff. Radar’s editors said that the office recently had an unpleasant experience with Moroccans, Surinamese or Turks and asked if the agency can take this into account. The program showed that nearly half, or 47%, said they could help with the request. House of Representative members stated that they are in favour of naming and shaming the agencies as well as publicly denouncing “these unwanted practices.” Other members of the House added that they are in favour of handing out hefty fines. However, the naming of the agencies may prove to be challenging as according to the Ministry of Social Affairs, discrimination investigations may not be made public for reasons of privacy.
